The other weekend, I travelled back to my dad’s home country of Barbados for a relaxing weekend away visiting family. Although I might be a tad biased, Barbados my favourite tropical destination to escape to. Divided into four main regions, most tourists will find themselves in the southern coast of the island where the majority of hotels and sandy beaches are located. However, if you want to see the island like a local, your best bet is to rent a car to explore the wonder of the West Indes. But, there are plenty of taxis, tourist busses and local transport to get you around to. Where to stay? The southern coast of Barbados is filled with a variety of guesthouses, apartment hotels, luxury villas and larger hotels. A wellness escape at The Westin Bayshore

Located adjacent to Stanley Park along picturesque Coal Harbour, The Westin Bayshore is a historic hotel overlooking Vancouver’s waterfront. Popular for both business and leisure guests, the hotel has 499 spacious guests rooms and suites,   Western Canada’s largest hotel conference centre, Vida Wellness full service spa, indoor and outdoor pools, and the recently opened H2 Rotisserie & Bar. But, what many people don’t know about The Westin Bayshore is their historic past.  The elusive billionaire Howard Hughes “lived” at the hotel for six months in 1972 where he made his way in and around the hotel without any staff or other guests seeing him. Boston: The Godfrey Hotel

The Godfrey Hotel (505 Washington St.) recently opened their newest location in Boston in the Downtown Crossing neighbourhood. With 242 beautifully decorated rooms and suites, this contemporary hotel offers a range of full-service amenities to guests incorporating modern technology into the design and plan of the hotel. Located in the architecturally restored Amory and Blake buildings, this luxury lifestyle hotel is centrally located in the Theatre District and is walking distance from Boston Common and the downtown area. The exterior prewar brick-and-stone façade and the white terra cotta façade have been restored under the direction of Finegold Alexander Architects to resurrect the splendor of these century-old Neoclassical and Gothic Revival buildings. The historic lobby was re-energized with modern decor and a a classic Italian cocktail and small plates bar, Cicchitti. An onsite restaurant and George Howell coffee shop are set to open within the hotel in the spring and summer 2016.
