With its extensive coastline and stunning collection of islands, Greece is an idyllic country that should not be missed on your European summer vacation. With little over a week to spare, you can sail your way through Mediterranean Sea and uncover the Grecian wonders of Athens, Mykonos and Santorini.
Athens
Athens is the capital city of Greece and the birthplace of Western civilization. With the Acropolis looming over the city, you can’t help but be reminded of the ancient history that surrounds this city. Be sure to walk through the ruins of the Greek Classical Age in the Acropolis where the Parthenon, the Erectheion and the Temple Athena Nike are found. For the best views of the sprawling city and the Saronic gulf, hike up to the top of Lykavittos Hill. On a clear day you can even see the island of Aegina and the Peloponnese. Follow the busy streets of Athens through Ancient Agora, across to Greek Parliament in Syntagma Square, over to the Temple of Olympian Zeus and down to Piraeus, the city’s ancient port, where you will board a boat to Mykonos.
Mykonos
Situated in the middle of the Aegean Sea, Mykonos the island paradise characterized by its stunning beaches, white houses and windmills overlooking the town. Stay in the whitewashed houses in Mykonos Town, Chora, and wander your way through the shops and restaurants to the wide bay. Rent a scooter or take the local bus to visit one of the many beaches along the southern coast of the island. Take the trip to Paradise or Super Paradise to experience the lively party atmosphere Mykonos is known for, or visit Psarou or Platys Gialos for more family friendly fun. Whatever you are looking for, Mykonos is sure to have something for everyone!
Santorini
Famous for the white and blue Grecian town of Oia, Santorini is a romantic Cyclades island destination. Hike your way up the winding path from the port or hop on a donkey to take you to the breathtaking views and stunning sunsets from the town perched on the cliff of the caldera. This volcanic island also houses some of the most unique beaches in the world including the black pebble beach of Kamari and Perissa, the White Beach and red beach of Akrotiri. Whether you’re travelling by bus, boat or ATV, there is a ton to explore on this stunning volcanic island.
