The Pink City – Jaipur, India

Jaipur, the capital of India’s Rajasthan state, is widely referred to as the “Pink City,” due to the inherently dominant pink colour of the city’s structures. Almost all of the buildings were built using sandstone, naturally pink in colour, reflecting the vibrancy of the city. This practice began in the 1800’s when then-King Sawai Ram Singh had the entire city painted pink, as the colour symbolizes hospitality and was to portray a welcoming atmosphere for Queen Victoria and the Prince of Whales’ visit. How did they know this colour would be so popular centuries later?

Burano, Italy

Venice, Italy is full of beautiful canals, hidden laneways and stunning architecture around every corner, but its lesser known neighbouring island of Burano is where you’re guaranteed to find Living Coral IRL. Even if you miss the glowing sunset over the Venetian Lagoon, the delightfully colourful fishing houses lining the streets and canals of Burano are sure to provide a perfectly picturesque Living Coral background to fill your Insta feed. Explore the island during an island cruise including dinner on Burano on Contiki’s 12-day Simply Italy adventure.

Tuz Gölü – Pink Salt Lake, Turkey

The Central Anatolia Region of Turkey is home to Lake Tuz, Turkey’s second largest lake and one of the largest hypersaline lakes in the world. Each summer, the lake turns a curious shade of pink before evaporating to reveal the thick rosy salt layer that coats the lake’s floor. Get up close and personal with this natural phenomenon which creates over 900 square kilometres of naturally Living Coral-coloured salt flats.

Let’s be honest, what better place is there to see Living Coral IRL than visiting actual coral reefs? One of the world’s more mysterious appearances of the colour, the coral reefs on the ocean floor off the Galapagos Islands are truly captivating and are vital to the planet’s ecosystem. Pantone’s Living Coral emanates the revitalizing, comforting features of colours found in nature, and this is no more evident than by its representation under the sea, where coral reefs protect a wide array of colour.
