Adding an art wall to a guest bedroom
When designing a guest room or a spare bedroom, the key is to create a space that is relaxing, inviting but that also feels neutral. You will want this space to feel welcome no matter who is staying there, and flexible in design enough that it can fit each guest. That’s why, when I was designing my guest room I decided to use different shades of blues to transport my friends and family to a calming seaside escape…even if I live in the city. Choosing a Paint Colour for a Guest Room According to Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams, she recommends soft watery blues and greens in your home to help with focus and to add a bit of calm. The top-selling blues range from the deep Azure Tide to the calming Lakeside and the pale Silent Ripple, which all offer a bit of repose to the…
How I decorated my living room with floor model furniture
The ripple effect that this pandemic has had on all businesses is astounding. Back in January, I ordered a couch for my living room that was supposed to arrive by March/April, but now it has been pushed to July. Worried that it might be delayed even longer, I decided to shop the floor sales at furniture stores looking to get rid of their floor models. When stores are open, many furniture stores sell off the floor models at the end of the season or often discounts on open-box return items. During the pandemic, many of these stores have been selling off items on Instagram sharing they’re selling on social media. The benefit was that I was able to get a number of furniture and decor sites from 50-75% off. The slight downside is that you have to be really diligent in inspecting each item to ensure that the damage (if…

Female Founders: Chantal Carter Taylor, Founder Love & Nudes
For over a decade, Chantal Carter Taylor has worked in the fashion and beauty industry in a variety of roles including as a fashion editor, wardrobe stylist, and product developer. She started Love & Nudes to provide modern intimates to complement a variety of skin tones. We chatted with Chantal to learn about her inspiring career journey. Can you tell us how Love & Nudes began? While working as a wardrobe stylist in fashion I was motivated by the glaring absence and misrepresentation of everyday products for women of colour. Nude was only defined as beige in the fashion and beauty industries. I knew this wasn’t true, but it seemed like it was just accepted as fact because no one was making fashion based on darker skin tone colours. I saw how black and dark-skinned models didn’t have nude undergarments they were expected to have for photoshoots! I too longed…
3 Craft Project to Try at Home
When I was in university I would procrastinate on my school work or delay studying with crafting. But, little did I know that diving into a craft project would be helpful to my studies because it helped to calm and clear my mind. With our lives being a little slower this year, it has been a great time to get back into crafting and to do something creative. What I love more about We Are Knitters is that not only are their patterns chic and easy to follow, they come with all of the supplies you need. This not only makes it easier to try something new but takes away the running around when you’re looking for something to do in lockdown. For those looking for a fun project to do, here are my three favourite crafts to try from We Are Knitters. Sun Gazer – Embroidery Kit (Intermediate) The best…
Adding an Accent Wall to Your Living Room
Have you ever wanted to add a bit of colour to a room but are worried about committing to too much? An accent wall might be that design feature that you have been looking for. When it comes to designing an accent wall, you’ll need to think about where you’ll want it, and the colours in your room that you can pull from. The best areas in the room to place an accent wall is behind larger furniture like your bed or couch or a wall that might be recessed or set back from the space. The idea is to bring the focus and draw attention in the space to an area of the room and add a touch of dimension, intrigue, and style. Where should you paint an accent wall? The first step is to pick between wallpaper or paint. Wallpaper on an accent wall can add an artistic…
How to Spray Paint Your Kitchen Hardware
If you’re looking for a way to save money during your kitchen renovation or just a fun project to do, spray painting your kitchen handles are a quick and easy way to modernize the space. Plus, a can of spray paint will only cost $10 (and can be used for multiple projects), whereas brand new kitchen handles will set you back upwards of $100 to outfit a full kitchen. We realized that replacing all 22 kitchen cupboard and drawer handles might be a bit too expensive to achieve the subtle change the kitchen needed. Because our appliances are dark, and the light fixture that we were bringing over to this space has black and gold accents, painting the kitchen handles darker would minimize the silver accents in the kitchen and add a neutral focus point for the mixed metals in a kitchen. Here’s how to spray paint your kitchen hardware.…
