What Happens to Your Skin During Travel?
Our skin is over-exposed to the Exposome, which affects its barrier function. Remember that the Exposome encompasses a variety of aggressors that our skin faces on a daily basis. When travelling, these aggressors include very dry air, climate shock, fatigue, external aggressions such as pollution & UV rays during layovers, stress, and pressure drops.
What happens to the skin when it is over-exposed to aggressions? It retains less water, blood circulation slows down, and cell regeneration is disturbed, ultimately leading to dehydration, fine lines, fatigue signs, and dullness. Just to put things into perspective, it only takes 1 hour in an airplane for our skin to become dehydrated, as the humidity rate in an airplane varies between 20-25% (the humidity rate in a desert is between 10-20%).
How to Take Care of your Skin While Travelling
Having a skincare routine that you can maintain while you’re on road is one of the best skin care tips you can get. With the highest concentration of Vichy Mineral water ever obtained (89%) combined with Hyaluronic Acid, Mineral 89 is the skin’s daily boost of strength, which ultimately reinforces the skin barrier and accelerates recovery while also providing hydration. It can be used on the face, lips and the eyes and works for all skin types.
94% of flight attendants claimed that their skin was more hydrated, smooth, and radiant after a long-haul flight thanks to Mineral 89 (Air France, Sept 2018).*
Before boarding, make sure to give your skin its daily boost of strength with Mineral 89 and moisturize properly afterwards (Ideally with the New 97% natural-origin formulas of Aqualia which are meant to resist thermic chocks (+/- 15C) while offering 48-hour hydration. On board, every 4 hours, it is recommended to drink 1L of water and also reapply Mineral 89 as cabin pressure greatly dehydrates the skin.
During the layover, apply Mineral 89 + sunscreen. Ideal Soleil sunscreen should also be applied every day while travelling (whether the sun is out or not) as 80% of UV rays go through clouds and are present all year round as 70% of ageing is due to UV rays. Ideal Soleil offers a high-performance formula that offers broad-spectrum UVB and UVA protection.
In order to take it one step further, I highly recommend Mineral 89 eyes which works on every level of the eye contour to target dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and dehydration. The DNA of Mineral 89 remains the same with 89% Vichy Mineralizing Thermal Water and hyaluronic acid, while Caffeine, Dermochlorella, & Shea Butter are added as extra ingredients to specifically target the eye area and its key concerns.
*In order to put Mineral 89 to the test, we recently conducted a study with over 250 flight attendants and had them incorporate Mineral 89 into their daily routine over 1 month.
