When you think of Australian life, the first thing that comes to mind is relaxing on a beautiful beach where all you need is your surf board and the sun shinning on your back. Only 7km from the downtown core of Sydney, Bondi Beach is the popular tourist and local destination that is the picture perfect example of quintessential Aussie beach life. After a few weeks of travelling, I was craving active day. Thanks to the advice of one of the guys working at my hostel, I had the perfect day enjoying what makes life down under truly great.
Hike
If you have the time, the costal walk from Coogee Beach to Bondi Beach is worth your time. One of Sydney’s most popular walks as this hike travels along the spectacular coastline. It is also extremely accessible medium grade walk as the 6km of paths are impeccably well maintained. Hike along the eastern shore along stunning views, beaches, parks, cliffs, bays and rock pools. At a comfortable pace, this entire walk takes around 2 hours to complete.
Yoga
After weeks of travelling, there was nothing more relaxing then unwinding with a yoga class right on beautiful Bondi Beach. I had the pleasure of attending an ocean front vinyassa class with Yoga By the Sea on the deck of the Bondi Icebergs. The calming sounds of the crashing of the waves were the perfect soundtrack to your outdoor yoga class allowing your mind, body and soul be at one with the stunning nature around you. This was my first time trying an outdoor yoga class and I feel in love instantly with how therapeutic it was to stretch under the warm Australian sun as you are refreshed with the cool ocean breeze.
Surf
The true Aussie experience isn’t complete without getting the chance to catch a wave in one of their many beaches. Hundreds of surfers flock every year to Bondi Beach to try surfing in this premium destination. Looking to hang ten with some of the locals down under? Mackenzie’s Point is one of the favourite locations with surfers along this beachfront stretch.
