The ripple effect that this pandemic has had on all businesses is astounding. Back in January, I ordered a couch for my living room that was supposed to arrive by March/April, but now it has been pushed to July. Worried that it might be delayed even longer, I decided to shop the floor sales at furniture stores looking to get rid of their floor models. When stores are open, many furniture stores sell off the floor models at the end of the season or often discounts on open-box return items. During the pandemic, many of these stores have been selling off items on Instagram sharing they’re selling on social media.
The benefit was that I was able to get a number of furniture and decor sites from 50-75% off. The slight downside is that you have to be really diligent in inspecting each item to ensure that the damage (if any) is minimal. But, with the savings and instant delivery of my furniture, I think that the pluses outweigh the minus.
Here’s how I decorated my living room:
The Paint: A few weeks ago I added an accent wall to my living room in Sherwin-Williams’ Naval (SW 6244). This rich navy blue colour adds a bit of drama a warmth to this space.
The Furniture: I found the Josephine Curved Sofa for a whopping 75% off from Crate & Barrel and its art deco shape and soft chenille-like fabric make it the focal point in the room. The Phoebe Chair from West Elm and the blue leather ottoman from casalife bring out the blue in the room and offer a little bit of texture variation in the living room.
The Lamps: Since this room is not wired for an overhead light fixture, lamps will be key to give this space enough light at night. While purchasing the couch on a floor sale, I picked up the Pipette Tube Floor Lamp and the Ella White Table Lamp from Crate & Barrel.
The Decor Items: I’m still searching for the right rug, art, and decor pieces to add some personal touches to this room. But for now, an accent pillow from Bouclair, the ZZ plant in the IKEA Gradvis pot, Iris White Agate Console Table, and marble-top Mara side table from Article help tie this space together.
